A shark attack killed a man despite a rescue attempt by police.

The Maui police said the rescuers brought a 39-year-old man, identified as Jason Carter, to the shore and performed life-saving measures.

The rescuers transferred him to a nearby Maui Memorial medical center but he was pronounced dead due to injuries.

Rescuers Saved Jason

According to The Guardian report, the rescuers did rescue Jason while he was still alive but badly hurt.

“Once onshore, life-saving measures were performed by first responder personnel until medic personnel arrived to transport the male to the Maui Memorial medical center for further treatment”, the Maui police said.

Jason succumbed to injuries later in the hospital.

According to the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, the shark warning signs were posted around a mile in each direction.

“By noon on Sunday, if no further signs of shark activity are detected, signs will be taken down,” the department said on Facebook.
