The US and the UK conducted joint airstrikes targeting Yemen-based Houthis as a defensive measure.

But members of Congress, even those of Biden’s same political party, have criticized the move, suggesting that the President breached the US Constitution.

Some Republicans did approve the attacks verbally, “calling it an overdue act of deterrence.”

Democrats Not Happy With Biden

Pramila Jayapal, chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, wrote on X that Biden violated the US Constitution because he was not authorized to do so.

“The President needs to come to Congress before launching a strike against the Houthis in Yemen,” she said.

California Congressman Ro Khanna said the President wants to drag the US into another Middle East conflict.

Others Had Biden’s Back

Although Biden was attacked by his fellow party members, staunch support came from some other top Republicans and Democrats.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said he welcomed US strikes as our interests were threatened.

Ben Cardin, a top Democrat, also supported the President’s move as a response to “dangerous provocations”.
